Lahore Court Dismisses Disqualification Plea Against Ghulam Sarwar Khan Over Degree Allegations

Lahore: An anti-corruption court in Lahore on Thursday rejected a petition seeking the disqualification of Federal Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan over allegations of possessing a fake degree, as reported by ARY News.

Court Proceedings:
The case was heard by Judge Bahadur Khan, who reviewed the petition claiming that Ghulam Sarwar Khan had obtained a fraudulent diploma. During the proceedings, the anti-corruption prosecutor informed the court that the minister’s B.A. degree was awarded based on his diploma, which was found to be authentic upon investigation.

The minister’s legal counsel argued that the petition was politically motivated, emphasizing that the investigation had cleared his client of all allegations. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the plea, citing a lack of evidence.

Previous Allegations:
This is not the first time Ghulam Sarwar Khan has faced disqualification attempts. Last year, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court, accusing him of acquiring a fake bachelor’s degree. The petition alleged that the degree was actually issued to another individual with the same name.

The complainants argued that a person who does not meet the constitutional criteria of being “Sadiq and Ameen” should not be allowed to hold a ministerial position. However, no legal action was taken against the minister following these claims.

Political Career:
Ghulam Sarwar Khan, a prominent member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), secured a decisive victory in the 2018 general elections from National Assembly constituencies NA-63 and NA-59. Following his electoral success, he was appointed as the Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources.
